Novation Dicer Mappings for Traktor Scratch

I got my Dicer’s for quite some time now and I really don’t want to miss them. Djing with the Dicer’s has made the whole digital-dj-thingy more intuitive and failsafe. I’ve never hit the wrong button like it happend all the time with the keyboard or other MIDI controllers. So I think it’s time to share my current Mappings for Traktor Scratch Duo (Version 2.1.1 at the moment).

I’ve created three separate Mapping files, so that you can choose which banks you want to use. And more importantly, it is very easy to exchange one bank with another mapping. That way you can use a bank with your own mapping very easily.

Bank 1: Cue points

This is a very basic mapping taken from the defaults. Use Bank 1 to set and delete Hotcues. The picture shows the Dicer with cue point 1 and 3 set while 2, 4 and 5 are not set for the currently loaded track.

Novation Dicer - Bank 1 "Cue points"

Button Top Layer Shifted Layer
1 Set/Jump to Hotcue 1 Delete Hotcue 1
2 Set/Jump to Hotcue 2 Delete Hotcue 2
3 Set/Jump to Hotcue 3 Delete Hotcue 3
4 Set/Jump to Hotcue 4 Delete Hotcue 4
5 Set/Jump to Hotcue 5 Delete Hotcue 5

Bank 2: Pitch bend and loops

Basically this is the bank that I activate while I’m “in the mix”. It delivers pitch bend functionality and loop control. Button 1 and 2 are used to pitch bend the track and also indicate the phase meter. That means button 1 will get red when the track is too slow while button 2 indicates, that the track is too fast. The Loops are controlled by button 3, 4 and 5. Button 3 enables and disables the loop and the other two increase or decrease the loop size.

Novation Dicer - Bank 2 "Pitch bend and loops"

Button Top Layer Shifted Layer
1 Pitch Bend (faster) Beatjump forward
2 Pitch Bend (slower) Beatjump backward
3 Toggle Loop On/Off
4 Decrease Loop Size Move Loop backward
5 Increase Loop Size Move Loop forward

Bank 3: File browsing

This one is useful when the laptop is a bit too far away to easily reach the keyboard. Button 1 loads the currently selected track and the other four are used to navigate through the library in different ways.

Novation Dicer - Bank 3 "File browsing"

Button Top Layer Shifted Layer
1 Load selected track into deck Set master
2 Select previous Page up
3 Select next Page down
4 Select previous folder Collapse folder
5 Select next folder Expand folder

confusedbits.net and my tools of choice

Now that I got my own domain I transfered/moved all posts from my wordpress.com account to this brand new blog. I’ve been looking at some blogging engines and ended up using WordPress as it seems to be the only “stress-free” solution for now. The most interesting alternatives are habari or a blog plug-in for PmWiki. But in the end the huge amount of plug-ins (syntax highlighting, …) and themes for WordPress was the decisive factor.

Right now I use WordPress with the following plug-ins/additions:

Beside the blog I’ve “installed” a Wiki and a online RSS reader. To cut a long story short: I use PmWiki with the SourceBlock plug-in (for syntax highlighting) for my personal Wiki and Tiny Tiny RSS to manage and read my news feeds.

While I normally try to avoid browser-based software, I must admit that I’m really impressed by Tiny Tiny RSS. It has completely replaced my desktop feed readers (Akregator and Liferea). And I really enjoy the fact that I don’t have to “sync” my feeds between different computers.

Now I just need a decent webmail software – something that can compete with the simplicity, power and speed of GMail…

EvoSynth website released

While EvoSynth 0.2 is still in development, I finally managed to publish the new EvoSynth homepage. The design (and the content) is far from perfect but it’s a start ;-)

“cue points” branch fixed

I just pushed a little bugfix to my “cue points”-branch @ github, now the keyboard should work fine in search mode (again).

Big thanks to DjTuxeedo, who has tested my branch and found this really stupid mistake of me (probably happened during a merge) :)
